The Great Dragon tells Merlin that he has an important destiny: to protect Uther's only son, Prince Arthur ( Bradley James), who will return magic to Camelot and unite the land of Albion. After hearing a mysterious voice inside his head, Merlin makes his way to the cavern beneath the keep to find that he was hearing the dragon's voice. He discovers that the king, Uther Pendragon ( Anthony Head), outlawed magic twenty years earlier in an event known as the Great Purge and imprisoned the last dragon, Kilgharrah (voice of John Hurt), in the caves beneath the castle. Merlin ( Colin Morgan) is a young, powerful warlock who arrives in the kingdom of Camelot after his mother arranges for him to stay with the court physician, Gaius ( Richard Wilson). Broadcasting rights were sold to over 180 countries, and the show became a mainstay on the digital network platform Netflix in both the US and the UK. During its airing it was nominated for several awards, winning the 2011 British Academy Television Award for best visual effects. Merlin received mixed reviews when it premiered, but gained good ratings that improved as the story progressed, becoming the most popular program on the BBC's digital catch-up service, iPlayer. Over the years and after several adventures together, Merlin and Arthur become trusted friends and companions, with the former doing his best to influence the latter into becoming the mighty king he is destined to be, unaware of what his actions will do in shaping this destiny. During his time there, Merlin learns that his magical powers must be used to protect Arthur, but must also be kept hidden because magic was banned in Camelot by Arthur's tyrannical father, King Uther Pendragon, and those caught practising it are executed. The programme is a reimagining of the traditional legend, in which young warlock Merlin is sent to the bustling kingdom of Camelot by his mother, and becomes the personal manservant to Prince Arthur. The programme starred Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Katie McGrath, Angel Coulby, Richard Wilson, Anthony Head, and John Hurt.

Created by Julian Jones, Jake Michie, Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy for the BBC, it was broadcast for five series on BBC One between 20 September 2008 and 24 December 2012. UPDATE: We're having trouble getting links to work in our bio.Merlin (also known as The Adventures of Merlin) is a British fantasy- adventure drama television programme, loosely based on the Arthurian legends regarding the close relations of Merlin and King Arthur. This is merely a work of creative commentary and is in no way for monetary gain.* We do not claim, nor intend the impression of, any rights to BBC's Merlin, nor the characters created by Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy. Question: What relation do we have to the makers of Merlin? Answer: As stated in the description of our Merlin Season 6 Trailer on youtube: *This project is not affiliated with BBC or Shine in any way. But how will they secure a promising future when history is fighting to repeat itself? Aided – and opposed – by familiar faces from their past, the King and his trusted warlock must face a cabal of adversaries led by an ancient Judge who intends to undermine any attempts to fulfill Arthur’s final destiny. What’s more, centuries of waiting for Arthur’s return have rendered Merlin traumatized and struggling with inner demons. But he finds himself confronted with a new world that is entirely unfamiliar. Spread the word!įifteen hundred years after his death, the Once and Future King finally returns. With that in mind, we've decided to post it here, one episode at a time. However, although there are no further plans within BBC to continue the show, we thought it would be a shame for it to never see the light of day - and we believe many Merlin fans would deeply appreciate it. Unsure of what to do with the script, we decided to put it aside for a while. Isaacs told us the team that made Merlin had all moved on and no longer worked within the Shine Group, and that while they did discuss continuing the show, their broadcasters had decided against it. They were very gracious in their responses to us. In February of 2015, we sent a query letter to Alex Mahon who passed it on to Daniel Isaacs, a joint CEO for Kudos. It took roughly a year and a half to write. Although we thought the ending of season five was quite beautiful, we also saw many possibilities as to how the storyline could be further developed. Rather, it is a serious and finished script, in continuity with the characters as they were portrayed onscreen - but also taking inspiration from opinions expressed by the actors themselves. We are a team of writers who have written a complete script for a sixth and final season of BBC's Merlin, entitled “Merlin: Kingdom Come.” To be clear, this is not merely fanfiction or a spin-off.
